RIPx , Episode#1 by Parkensis
…Marco! Polo... Time was passing slowly at Bear Trap Ridge, Gambit, Rottie and myself where waiting for the final assault to hit us. We would try to make the best of it, but things where looking grim. In the early engagement all was very different we had the upper hand. Gambit and I killed four of the enemy’s mech and lost only two. The enemy was composed of a Shadow Cat, a Thanatos and two Mark II. We ourselves fielded four Thanatos, the innerphere’s workhorse. At 75 tons, the mech is a very versatile fighting machine, although bulky and disgraceful, it can fill in any number of roles. Equip with all sorts of electronics and jump jets, it can be fielded as a support mech or take on the biggest of them all up close and personal. Today it would prove the engineers correct, it would fill in its role and what it was meant to do, protect its driver’s interest and the kill the opponents. …Marco! Polo… Myself, Rottie and Gambit got into a discussion on the com line about strategy and how we could defeat our enemy. When Sohjin’s mech, the fourth member of our lance, got an unfortunate computer malfunction, we were left with little option but to draw back and wait for reinforcements. But the wait would be long and we had to survive yet another possible encounter. The dropship Renegade 3 was schedule to lift off in 95 minutes, Gambit and myself had one mech each remaining and Rottie had two. Unfortunately, when Sohjin’s computer defaulted he was the only one who did not loose a single mech in this combat. So we found a comfortable spot around our dropship and waited. Each one was looking at a line of site, Gambit was looking rear and right, Rottie front and left, I was looking at the ridge passage on our left flank. Each of our mechs were at 100% effectiveness, so the only thing remaining to do now was to wait… …Marco! Polo… The strategy was to see them first, hopefully the scat (shadow cat) was going to do some recon and we would have a chance to destroy it first. In a previous engagement, the little medium mech got some nasty burns from the lasers and gauss of Rottie’s Thanatos. So if we could dispatch it quickly, we would find another place to hide before the main enemy forces of assault Madcat Mark II would arrive in range to annihilate us. If it worked, we would start the little game all over again, until the scat has been definitely destroyed. This part of the strategy was to bring enemy forces to equal numbers, 3 against 3, or scared the mechwarrior so much he would not recon by himself thus slowing the process of finding our location. We new also that one of the MKII fighting us now was badly damaged, I had encountered it on top of the highest peek of Bear Trap Ridge earlier. During the fight he managed to take one of my mech before I could finish him off, a lucky shot to my torso destroyed my machine. I managed to make a hole the size of a car on his left torso before lying lifeless on the snow. I was planning on that to bring a little retribution and the fight to an even state. Simple, kill the scat twice, kill the injured MKII quickly and then dispose of the 2 remaining units of the lance before we get killed ourselves. This would leave 3 mechs on the other side and hopefully 3 mechs on our side with 3 Mechwarriors to pilot them. My plan was to exchange one of Rottie mechs for five of them. Very optimistic I believe but feasible and only time will prove me right. …Marco! Polo…
